.Gyroscopes, as a type of motion sensors, play a vital role in the applications of precise electronic control. The MPU-3300 is a high-performance three-axis gyroscope, accelerometer and temperature sensor unit that is designed for low-power embedded applications. This gyroscope is a great choice for applications requiring accurate movement detection, such as robotics, navigation, tracking, vibration detection and control.
The MPU-3300 motion sensor is an integrated system in package (SIP) which incorporates all the functional components required to detect motion and provide the metrics needed to calculate the position and orientation of an object. Its design is based on two primary components - a three-axis gyroscope and a three-axis accelerometer. It also contains temperature sensing capabilities and an embedded digital motion processor (DMP) which implements the sophisticated functions required by these motion-tracking applications.
The most significant feature of MPU-3300 is its three-axis gyroscope which measures the angular rotation of an object with respect to its center of gravity. This gyroscope is mounted onto a vibration-isolated platform that substantially reduces the influence of external vibrations. As a result, the angular velocity of an object can be accurately measured with a typical sensitivity of ±50°/sec. With the addition of a three-axis accelerometer, the angular velocity can be combined with linear acceleration to obtain the position and orientation of an object in real time.
The MPU-3300 gyroscope also incorporates a digital motion processor (DMP) which is primarily responsible for taking the data from the accelerometer and gyroscope and producing a useful output. This is done by using complex mathematical algorithms which take into account acceleration, gravity, and angular acceleration to accurately calculate the position and orientation of an object. The DMP also allows more complex calculations such as gesture recognition and motion tracking.
The MPU-3300 motion sensor offers a wide range of potential applications in robotics, navigation, tracking, vibration detection and control, and other embedded systems.
