The MS46-IP67-870 photoelectric sensor is an industrial-grade, long-range optical sensor designed for light, dark, or bright background applications. The sensor is particularly useful in industrial automation applications, and for detecting the presence of any object within a given range. The minimum photoelectric distance the sensor can measure reliably is 870 millimeters (34.2 inches).

The sensor is designed with a stainless steel housing and hermetically sealed optics, and provides IP67 protection against dust, water, and oil. This robust, IP67 rated construction offers excellent protection in extreme environmental conditions. The sensor also includes an integrated heater, which can be used to improve the visibility of a target in low visibility situations, such as fog. Finally, the MS46-IP67-870 incorporates a unique Dual Color Mode, which allows the user to select from three different LED colors for different target colors.

The MS46-IP67-870 utilizes tri-redundant, dual IR sensors in order to detect objects from up to 870 millimeters away. This two-sensor configuration reduces false alarms and total cycle time compared to single-sensor configurations. The sensor also can be programmed to operate on light or dark objects, can detect through reflective surfaces, and can detect objects in any position (upright, tilted, or inverted). Additionally, the sensor can be set for either visible or invisible light operation and features a fast response time of less than 50 milliseconds.

The working principle behind the MS46-IP67-870 photoelectric sensor is relatively simple. The sensor utilizes two infrared sensors, one which is always optimized for the target object’s color. The second sensor operates as a reference sensor. When the target object is within the sensing range, the difference between the two sensors’ outputs is used to determine whether or not the object is present. If the target object is outside of the sensing range, the reference sensor’s output remains constant and the sensor will not detect the object.

The MS46-IP67-870 photoelectric sensor is designed primarily for industrial automation applications, such as in automated machinery, packaging, and sorting systems. It is also useful in safety applications, as the sensor can detect objects from a longer distance than standard photoelectric sensors. Additionally, the sensor can be used in extreme environmental conditions, where the integrity of the enclosure can be a concern. Finally, the Dual Color Mode feature of the sensor makes it ideal for applications which require different bearings, reflectors, or other objects to be distinguished from one another.
