RF Evaluation and Development Kits, Boards provide an important tool for assessing and qualitatively evaluating the performance of wireless products. The MSC-AMS915-EK is among the latest offering from Microsystems Inc. for the evaluation and development of high-performance, low-power RF systems. This application field and working principle of the MSC-AMS915-EK is discussed in this paper.

The MSC-AMS915-EK is a low-cost development and evaluation board for 802.15.4/Zigbee-compliant radios and systems. It is designed and engineered as an all-in-one, comprehensive evaluation platform that enables designers to quickly and easily evaluate high-performance 802.15.4 radio architectures for both data rates and range performance. The board consists of a 32-bit ARM microcontroller, an internal RAM, an internal Flash memory, a Zigbee radio module, and a USB interface for PC communications. The signals routed to the board provide an interface to multiple antennas, and for testing both the transmit and receive performances. Furthermore, the board is capable of generating up to 16dBm output power.

The MSC-AMS915-EK board can be used for evaluating the performance of various radio systems including Zigbee, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The board is particularly effective for assessing, experimenting and developing applications in the two-way communication, streaming/downloading media, and sensing/monitoring networks. It can be used for such applications in industrial automation, consumer electronics, home automation, medical systems, and more. It can also be used to evaluate the performance of low-power wireless devices, such as devices used in agricultural, mining, and oilfield environments.

The board is highly versatile and can be used for a wide variety of evaluation purposes and in a range of conditions. It is capable of adapting to multiple 802.15.4/Zigbee topologies, both TDMA and CSMA/CA. It can be used to investigate data rates, latency, signal penetrations, and signal coverage, as well as the effects of external interference. The board supports several networking protocols, including: Zigbee multihop networking, 802.11 b,g,n, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

The MSC-AMS915-EK board can also be used to assess the performance of wireless transceivers, antennas, and radio architectures. It can be used to test the sensitivity, selectivity, range, signal-to-noise ratio, and other important RF characteristics of the devices being evaluated. Furthermore, the performance of the transceivers’ performance greater distances can be tested by simply connecting an external antenna to the board and relocating the board further away. By doing this, designers can quickly and easily evaluate the performance of a device in multiple environments.

In addition, the MSC-AMS915-EK board can be used to evaluate the range, signal penetration, and data rate performance of two-way wireless networks. It can be used to create a mesh or star networks. It can also be used to measure the power consumption of a network under different settings. The board can be used to evaluate the performance of transmit and receive functions of various low-power radios, including Zigbee radios, Bluetooth radios, and Wi-Fi radios. The board can be used to diagnose network performance problems.

The MSC-AMS915-EK board provides a versatile evaluation and development platform that offers designers the ability to quickly and easily evaluate the performance of their RF systems. By using the board, designers are able to evaluate the performance of various radio systems and architectures, as well as new or existing low-power devices and antennas. The board can also be used to assess the range, signal penetration, and data rate of two-way networks and can be used to diagnose network performance problems.
