Magnetic sensors play a crucial role in industrial automation, and it is often necessary to detect changes in magnetic fields to identify a particular position or location. However, for many applications, traditional contact-based positions sensors - such as switches, potentiometers and relays - may not suffice. This is where a Magnetic Sensor System (MSS) comes in. The MSS-19CTG is a position sensor that works by detecting the changes in a target magnetic field. It is able to measure changes in the direction and intensity of a magnetic field in order to identify the exact position of objects.

The MSS-19CTG position sensor consists of two main components: a sensing coil and a detection electronics module. The sensing coil is a loop of conductive metal, usually copper or aluminium, wound in the shape of a “figure 8”. It is designed to detect changes in the magnetic field that it is placed in. When a ferrous object enters the field, the coil’s impedance is altered as it induces a current, which is then detected by the attached electronics module. The module then interprets the signals from the coil and delivers the measurements to the device being monitored, such as a servo motor, a single-board computer, or a motion controller.

The sensitivity and accuracy of the MSS-19CTG is very impressive for its size. It is capable of operating up to a range of ±2 Gauss (the Earth’s magnetic field is roughly 0.5 Gauss) with a resolution of 0.1 mGauss. Its accuracy is within 0.25%, and its operating voltage is between 5 to 24 VDC. With its high level of accuracy, the MSS-19CTG is ideal for applications that require precision measurement of magnetic fields. Typical applications include medical imaging, robotics, and industrial automation.

In addition to its ability to measure magnitude and direction of the target magnetic field, the MSS-19CTG is also able to detect, count, and compare different magnetized objects for application-specific processes. Its ability to differentiate between multiple magnets makes it suitable for discriminating between different product components. For example, it could be used to distinguish between two differently magnetized screws during a manufacturing process or to identify a particular damaged component.

As the MSS-19CTG requires no contact with the target magnetic field, it is also ideal for monitoring hard-to-reach locations or hazardous environments. It can be used for monitoring hazardous industrial processes, such as fuel leakage or chemical spills, since its reliable operation is unaffected by dust, humidity, and mechanical shocks. Furthermore, it occupies very little space, making it ideal for OEM applications.

The MSS-19CTG position sensor is a high-quality magnetic field sensor that provides reliable, accurate, and low-cost solutions for a wide range of industrial automation and robotics applications. Its simple design and versatility makes it a great choice for many different needs. With its high level of accuracy, low maintenance requirements, and robust construction, the MSS-19CTG position sensor is sure to prove itself a valuable component in any industrial automation or robotics project.
