AC DC Converters

The working principle of an AC/DC converter is based on the principle of magnetic induction.

In an AC supply network, the voltage of the electricity is constantly fluctuating. In order to regulate the voltage to a stable DC level that can be used to power electronic devices, a transformer, a diode, a capacitor and a voltage regulator are used.

The transformer, made of a laminated iron core and copper windings is used to convert the incoming AC voltage to a lower or higher voltage to match the requirements of the appliance or component. The secondary winding of the transformer is connected to the diode bridge to rectify the AC voltage to DC.

The rectified DC voltage is then filtered by the capacitor to eliminate any AC components. Finally, the voltage regulator is used to convert the filtered DC voltage to the desired load voltage level.
