P1101DF-1E is an advanced mixed technology type TV Surge Protection Device (SPD) which is embedded with both metal oxide varistors (MOVs) and gas discharge tubes (GDTs) into one integrated package. MOVs are the primary component that provides the majority of surge current protection whereas the GDTs provide enhanced protection against high energy hits.

Application Field

P1101DF-1E is mainly used in applications that require protection against transient over voltage events. Common application areas are LAN interfaces, power supplies, low voltage power lines, video filters and surveillance systems. The device can protect any kind of equipment or system against over voltage, as long as it’s connected between the line/mains and the load.

Working Principle

When excessive voltage is detected, the MOVs act as a short circuit, providing a low impedance path to the surge voltage. This redirects the surge energy to ground and safeguarding the connected equipment from damage. GDTs are also used to provide additional surge protection. When the GDTs detect an excessive surge voltage, they create an arc current which is dissipated into the ground. This arc current is ideal for dealing with high energy transients such as lightning strikes.
