Thyristors (or Silicon Controlled Rectifiers, SCRs) are solid-state switches or on-off devices that can be used to control the flow of electrical currents by regulating the flow of one or more of the three power components – current, voltage and frequency – of AC power. The P2600EA is a series of Thyristors specifically designed for power factor control applications on industrial circuits with an input voltage range of 120 to 600 VAC.
The P2600EA features an integrated single-phase power factor control module that can accurately adjust the power factor of an AC circuit. It reduces system power losses and eliminates wasted energy due to an incorrect current/voltage ratio. The module also offers a range of adjustable operating parameters such as threshold voltages, power levels and load current settings.
In AC circuits, the power factor is the ratio of the active power to the total apparent power. The active power is the power that performs useful work in the circuit, while the apparent power includes both the active and reactive power components. When the reactive power is out of balance with the active power, it causes excessive current flow through the circuit, resulting in decreased voltage to loads.
The P2600EA Thyristors are designed to automatically correct the power factor in industrial power supplies without the need for complex power control systems. The Thyristors feature a built-in chip designed to monitor the power factor of the circuit. If the power factor exceeds a predetermined threshold, the Thyristor switches off the voltage supply and turns it back on when the power factor drops below the threshold.
The P2600EA has an integrated logic circuit that can be programmed according to the specific requirements of the application. The ambient temperature range of the Thyristors is -40C to +85C and they are designed to withstand maximum voltage spikes up to 8KV as per IEC 61000-2.
The P2600EA Thyristors are ideal for applications such as manufacturing factories with large electric motors, industrial process control systems, electro-mechanical drives, data centers, renewable energy systems and other applications where power factor control is required. They can also be used in power supplies, motor speed control systems, air conditioning systems and high-voltage systems.
