The P50-020P-S20-EA is a rectangular connector which belongs to arrays, edge type, mezzanine family. It is a flat, two-part board-to-board connector which allows for two boards to connect securely at right angles. Generally this type of connector is used in the self-stacking mezzanine or edge card applications. It is a kind of momentary or ”plug and play” connections.

The connector is available in a number of different shapes and sizes in order to fit different board thickness. The header is designed with counter springs for easy mating and field replaceable parts.

In order to maximize holding force, the P50-020P-S20-EA includes a feature known as SMU (Surface Mounting Unit) on the socket. It is basicallya solderable assembly that grabs both the mating connector and the PCB. This provides an additional retention force on the mating parts. The SMU also ensures a secondary level of connection on the PCB in case of shock and vibration.

When the two connectors are mated, the locking structure of the board-to-board connector provides stability and firmly locks the two connectors in place. Two locking slots with tangs in the header are engaged with two springs on the socket and form a secure locking mechanism. Additionally, the connector has two retention clips to maintain good mating alignment. To disconnect it, a user needs to depress the locking tangs and separate the two connectors.
