Optoisolators are used to transmit and receive signals between circuits of different electrical potentials. They are generally used to isolate one circuit from another and provide electrical isolation. A typical optoisolator consists of an LED, a phototransistor and a light-blocking shield. The PC817X1J000F is one such optoisolator and is manufactured by Sharp Corporation.The PC817X1J000F is a miniature flatlead type optoisolator, featuring an LED coupled photocoupler. It is housed in a small SOP surface-mounted package. The package includes a built-in barrier between the LED and phototransistor providing electrical isolation with high isolation voltage between the input and output of the optoisolator.The PC817X1J000F has a wide range of applications. It can be used in computer peripherals, modems, telecommunications equipment, digital logic circuit isolation, A/D and D/A conversion isolation, load driver isolation and signal transmission between circuits with different common mode potentials. It can also be used for digital logic circuits and for application fields where safety requirements are strictly enforced.ThePC817X1J000F optoisolator features a GaAsIR LED insertedbetween the light-receiving and light-emitting slots, a phototransistor for signal reception and a built-inphotocell isolator shield which prevents the noise generatedby external light sources. The LED is connected to the circuit with a common-anode and two separate external lines for the anode and cathode. The LED has a fast response time of 0.6usec(us) max., allowing it to be used in high-speed applications.The phototransistor has an excellent response time of less than 5us and a high collector-emitter voltage of 60V. It is well suited for digital control or signal transmission applications and provides a high input- impedance for the optoisolator. The built-in photodiode isolator is designed to inhibit interference from external light sources and amplifiers, providing excellent circuit isolation.The PC817X1J000F optoisolator works by transforming optical signals from an LED into current. The LED emits a beam of light in the visible frequency range, which is detected by the phototransistor. The phototransistor then converts the light signal into electrical current, which is passed on to the circuit. The high isolation voltage keeps the signal from passing through any electrical components, ensuring that the circuit will remain properly isolated.The PC817X1J000F provides good performance in optical isolation and current transmission and is an ideal choice for applications requiring high isolation voltage, fast response time and low power consumption. It is an efficient and cost-effective optoisolator which can be used in a wide variety of applications.
