Fuses are used to protect electrical circuits from any overcurrent faults that can occur from mechanical overloads and unexpected short circuits. The PCH-2-1/2-R is a current-limiting class “RK5” fuse. It is designed for branch circuit protection in multiple-family dwellings, schools, hospitals, and commercial and industrial buildings with the following characteristics.
Application Field and Working Principle
The PCH-2-1/2-R is a current-limiting current-limiting fuse which is designed for branch circuit protection in multiple-family dwellings, schools, hospitals, and commercial and industrial buildings. This fuse is rated at 10,000 amperes interrupting capacity and is suitable for interrupting currents from 10 amperes to 100 amperes. Its voltage rating is 600 volts, and the operational temperature range is from -40°C to +85°C (32°F to 185°F). It is also RoHS compliant, meaning it contains no hazardous substances.
The PCH-2-1/2-R has a special construction designed for current-limiting, short-circuit protection. Its micro-fuse link contains a temperature-sensitive element which will melt when overcurrent reaches a predetermined level, thus causing the fuse element to rupture. This vessel of melting short-circuit current is normally much less than the full-load amperes of the circuit. Hence, any current overloads can be cleared in a matter of dissipating the maximum energy in an extremely short period of time.
A PCH-2-1/2-R current-limiting fuse can accept up to 10,000 amperes at 600V, making it suitable for a variety of applications. This high interrupting capacity is especially useful for short-circuit protection in applications such as industrial plants, multi-story buildings, and airports that are subject to occasional severe overloads in motors and other equipment, such as water pumps, electric ovens, dryers, air conditioners, etc.
The PCH-2-1/2-R also has a long life and is designed to allow a high number of interruptions providing a cost-effective solution for applications that require frequent fuse replacement. This fuse is UL listed and meets the requirements of the UL Standard 98, Standard for Fuses. As an added benefit, the PCH-2-1/2-R can meet the requirements of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for current-limiting type fuses.
The PCH-2-1/2-R is also a “current-limiting” type fuse, which utilizes an independently contained “grip switch” located inside the fuse body that acts as a trip device. When the short-circuit current exceeds it set limit, the “grip switch” will open, thus breaking the circuit. This beneficial feature allows for maximum protection of the circuit while still providing the necessary current limiting and fast-acting requirements of the fuse.
