Working Principle

PDA080B-1A6G is a switched mode LED driver, which means that it utilizes a switching mode power supply (SMPS). It works by using an internal transistor to act as an oscillator, whose frequency is determined by the external Resistor-Capacitor (RC) network. This oscillator then switches between high (V+) and low (V-) voltage to create a rectangular wave, which pulses the current across the output transistors.

The amount of current delivered to the LED is determined by the RC network, which is adjustable via the “CURRENT” pin. This pin allows for the adjustment of the duty cycle, which is the ratio of high to low voltage. The higher the duty cycle, the higher the current delivered. This allows for dimming of the LED in 0.1A increments.
