.Electric Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC)
Electric double layer capacitors, also known as EDLC, supercapacitors, or ultracapacitors, are electrochemical capacitors with an extremely high capacitance. These capacitors are capable of storing much higher energy densities than regular electric capacitors. EDLCs also have a longer life cycle and a faster charge and discharge times. They can be used in various applications such as energy storage, portable electronics, automotive and aerospace.
PHV-5R4H505-R application field and working principle
The PHV-5R4H505-R electric double layer capacitor is suitable for charge and discharge applications in power supplies and load inverters, like the PHV-8R4H, electric power steering systems and other auto motive applications. Moreover, it can be used in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. It features a robust construction that improves cycle life while keeping a large capacitance/energy density ratio.
The working principle of the PHV-5R4H505-R electric double layer capacitor is based on the electric double layer phenomena in electrolytic solutions. When a voltage potential is applied to the terminal of an electric double layer capacitor, electrostatic force interacts between the electrodes and electrolytic solution to cause opposite charges to accumulate on the surface of each electrode. This forms a charge barrier in the electrolyte, with one electrode attracting positive ions and the other attracting negative ions. The attractive force creates a charge at the electrode interface that is close to the original voltage applied to the terminals. This double layer of charge is what gives EDLCs their superior capacitance.
Supercapacitors
