It has two terminals, and the winding is encased in a metal can. It is capable of handling up to 1.5A of continuous current, and is rated for up to 26A peak current. The typical inductance of the PL9123 is 220 microhenries (uH); however, this value can be adjusted by changing the number of turns in the winding.

The most common application for the PL9123 is as a noise suppressor in power supplies and switching circuits. In these applications, the inductor decreases high-frequency noise while allowing the desired signal to pass through. The high-frequency noise is dissipated as heat in the winding, protecting the system components from damaging voltage spikes and surges. As the component is very small, it can be easily mounted on a PCB or close to the application circuit.

The working principle of the PL9123 is based on the principle of induction. As current flows through the winding, a magnetic field is generated and stored in the inductor. Whenever a changing current attempts to pass through the component, a voltage is induced in the opposite direction, which opposes the current\'s flow. This “back-EMF” effect suppresses high-frequency noise and smoothes out any voltage spikes, providing a stable current flow to the circuit.
