The core of PM74S-151M is made of high-magnetic-permeability amorphous, which is surrounded by a winded High-Grade Humidity-resistant Enameled Wire (HGHR), while the bottom of the coil is capped-off with a conductive housing plate. The winded construction of PM74S-151M allows it to have superior self-resonance characteristics, allowing the coil to to reach frequencies much higher than their winded counterpart. When exposed to an AC current the current flowing through the wire windings set-up a magnetic field in the core, which in turn induces an opponent electromotive force (emf) in the coil. This induced emf creates an opposition to the current which acts as a resistor that retards the applied current, leading to the generation of heat. The generated heat is then dissipated through the conductive housing plate. As the current then increases the winding losses increase thereby restricting the current to safe levels.
