Through Hole Resistors: Application field and working principle

Through hole resistors, also known as radial lead resistors, are resistors that are typically constructed using a cylindrical body of ceramic, metal or other insulating material and have two metal or other conductive leads that protrude from the body. These leads are usually in a straight, radial pattern, and are usually connected to each other by soldering at one end. Through hole resistors are often used in circuitry to control the resistance of a specific part of an electronic component or device. This allows engineers to control the current and voltage in a certain circuit by varying the strength of the parallel resistance. Through hole resistors are commonly used in power supply and control circuits, as they are typically stronger and more reliable than their surface mount equivalents. The most common type of through hole resistor is the metal oxide film resistor. As the current travelling through the resistor increases, the voltage drop across the resistor also increases.
