DC-DC converters are electronic power supplies that convert a power supply from one DC voltage level to another. PT5027A is one of such power blocks that used to convert an input voltage of wide range into an adjustable output voltage derived from the buck-boost converter technique.
In more detail, the PT5027A utilizes synchronous rectification and analog control to achieve high efficiency. It can be used to process current up to 30A and the output voltage can be adjusted from 0.8V to 5V, while the input voltage range from 2.7V to 30V. The positive input DC voltage can achieve reverse polarity protection, and the minimum startup voltage is as low as 1.6V. The current mode control and Auto-skip feature provide high precision control of output voltage, which can stabilizes voltage output in all input conditions. In addition, the PT5027A offers several output protection features such as over-current protection, over-voltage protection, thermal protection and undervoltage lockouts.
PT5027A is very suitable for a wide range of applications including but not limited to computing, industrial, LED lighting etc. It plays an important role in converting input voltage into output voltage within a wide range. Generally, it can be used in compact, high-current, wide-input communities and external ac-dc or dc-dc applications, to achieve high efficiency and wide input voltage of DC power supply. It works by creating a transfer circuit transistor and a combined synchronous rectifier for task execution. The synchronous rectified transistor will get controlled via the drain current site, providing lower losses and higher efficiency. Also, the horizontal transistor will get connected to the output voltage for voltage regulation.
The PT5027A works in the following steps: first, the switching control logic module gets the Vout voltage and the output load current, and then adjusts the duty cycle of the converted pulse, so that the average conduction time of the power MOSFET is balanced with the average conduction time of the synchronous rectification MOSFET. This prevents the temperature of the heat sink from rising too quickly and at the same time provides an intermediate adjustable voltage with two output modes. After that, when the power switch turns on, the driving current of the power switch enters the inductor, producing a current through the inductor coil to the diode terminal, and the current then passes through the drain terminal of the power MOSFET to the load, thus achieving the output voltage. Finally, when the power switch turns off, the diode holds the current that comes out of the inductor’s two ends, so as to maintain the circuit’s current flow.
In conclusion, the PT5027A is a power block which is used to convert wide input voltage into adjustable output voltage with high efficiency and great precision. It is suitable for a wide range of applications. It has a synchronous rectifying system and a switching control system. By regulating current between the converter and the load, a smooth output voltage can be achieved in all input conditions.
