PT5048M is a wide input range DC-DC converter that provides up to 2A output current. It integrates a 40V, 50mO N-Channel MOSFET with an optimized gate driver for maximum efficiency, enabling a 2A output using simple inductors and small ceramic capacitors. The wide input voltage range and low output ripple make it well-suited for automotive, industrial and medical applications.The PT5048M utilizes a non-synchronous, fixed frequency, pulse-width modulation (PWM) control architecture. It uses an adjustable PWM frequency between 150kHz and 250kHz to control output voltage regulation. The fixed frequency PWM modulator also ensures that the output voltage is inherently stable, without any loop compensation or external sensing elements.The PT5048M employs external feedback resistors to set the desired output voltage. It incorporates three typical operating modes: dropout, pulse skipping mode (PSM) and hysteretic current mode (HCM). PSM adjusts the duty cycle of the pulses proportional to the output current demand. In HCM, the FET is passively switched on/off based on the input and output voltage with no minimum on/off times. In dropout mode, the device will draw nearly zero power when the output is lower than the input voltage. All mode transitions are smooth and without default. The device is built to be robust with advanced features such as input under-voltage protection, input over-voltage protection, thermal protection, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and integrated soft start. External components such as capacitors, inductors, and input/output capacitors are all simplified and optimized.
