The PT7C4511WE is a versatile clock generator/synthesizer that simplifies system timing design and can be used for a wide range of applications. It is a member of Intersil\'s PT7C4x11 Clock/SYNC family, which provides stable and accurate base frequency synthesis with the added benefits of advanced jitter attenuation, programming flexibility, and synchronization capability. The PT7C4511WE clock generator/synthesizer consists of two main components: the programmable frequency synthesizer (PFS) and the jitter attenuator (JA). The PFS is the key component that provides all of the control, timing, and frequency synthesis capabilities necessary for system timing. It consists of an integrated frequency synthesizer, phase interpolator, programmable dividers, and phase-locked loop. The 600 kHz - 1.2 GHz frequency range, supports multiple output frequencies, outputs, and phase angles. The PFS supports a variety of single-ended and differential output formats, including LVDS/LVCMOS, LVPECL, and CML. The PFS also includes an integral Buffer to provide true power-up/down holdover capability.
The JA is the centerpiece of the PT7C4511WE, and is designed to reduce jitter and improve clock integrity. The JA consists of a digital loop filter, phase detector, and multiple digital and analog integrators. The digital loop filter isolates and eliminates jitter by linearly adjusting the phase or frequency of the clock signal. The analog loop filter further reduces the phase and frequency errors by multiple integrators that are controlled by a ±1.3V analog control signal. The phase detector compares the local reference clock with the incoming clock signal, and adjusts the phase, frequency, or duty cycle of the incoming clock to match the local reference.
