PTC16DADN

PTC16DADN is a type of rectangular electrical connectors that commonly find its applications as input and output signals for phone systems and many other application fields. This rectangular connector is a two-part assembly—the header and the male pin. It has a center-row contact configuration and each contact consists of a shrouded terminal, universal polarization rib, insulation displacement contact (IDC) and two antennas. The shielding effect of the antenna provides EMC protection.

The header is a 2.54-mm (0.10 inch) pitch, Compact Size and Two-row tape-on-reel surface mount type for automatic pick and place assembly. The housing is made of flame-resistant polyamide UL-94V-0 material. It has a wide range of housing shapes that readily supports various types of mating and cable mounting styles, like straight and perpendicular, PCI slot and cable wrap. It also features a double-entry cavity which allows both mating from the top and the bottom.

The male pin is also 2.54-mm (0.10 inch) pitch and is made of phosphor bronze material. It uses a tin-plated surface finish for corrosion protection and a black homogenous insulation for increased carrying current. The male pin has a built-in spring latch which provides secure mating retention and a grounding tab provides shielding effect. The screw-machine process ensures that the center row pins\' length and resistance meet the required specifications.

The working principle of PTC16DADN is based on the spring latch design. In order to mate the male pin and the header, the male pin is inserted and then pressed into the cavity which opens up the spring latch. Once the male pin is fully seated in the cavity, the spring latch closes, holding the male pin securely. Automated equipment can be used for reliable mating using a two-step load force on the top and bottom row of contacts, respectively. This guarantees an electrical connection between the header and the male pin.

To disengage the male pin and the header, use a one-row action, pushing into one of the two rows with a force which will open up the spring latch enabling the release of the male pin. With this design, PTC16DADN provides reliable connections especially in a high-vibration environment.
