Working principle:

Under normal current conditions, the polymer material inside the PTC fuse has a low electrical resistance, so that only a small amount of voltage is dropped across the fuse. When the current flows through the device surpasses the specified value, the temperature inside the fuse is abnormally increased. The electric property of the material changes, and the resistance of the fuse increases to a critical value with the temperature. This results in a very large voltage drop across the fuse, thus limiting the current to a much lower value.

When the current voltage is reduced to a certain level, the material inside fuse returns slowly to its original form, and the peak voltage drop decreases. This prevents collapse of device, allowing it to reset and return to its normal operative condition without the need of an external stimulus.
