Fixed Inductors

A fixed inductor is an electronic device that stores electrical energy in a magnetic field when electric current is flowing through it. A fixed inductor is a passive component that comprises a coil having an inductance (L) and a parallel resistance (R). Generally, a fixed inductor is made of a wire wound around a core material. The core material of an inductor is typically made of ferrite, powdered iron, and other types of metal. Depending on the physical shape, the inductors are known as air core, toroidal, andother types.

PTKM750-894 Application Field and Working Principle

The PTKM750-894 fixed inductors are designed for low operating temperatures, low current and wide frequency range applications. They have a power rating of up to 750 mW. With an inductance range from 1.2 to 10 mH, they are the ideal choice for miniature and low-profile applications. The wide temperature range of -40 to 125°C makes them suitable for demanding automotive and industrial applications.

The PTKM750-894 inductor operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When a changing current passes through the inductor winding, a magnetic field is generated and stored around the core material of the inductor. This magnetic field induces a self-reactance of impedance in the winding, which has the effect of limiting the current. The degree of limitation is proportional to the inductance of the coil, thus the stored energy is proportional to the square of the current.

The features of PTKM750-894 include extremely low AC and DC resistance for high efficiency, excellent temperature stability, high current carrying capacity, and low EMI/RFI signatures that make them favoured for RF applications. In addition, these inductors are capable of providing a wide frequency range of up to 350KHz. Furthermore, the flat, parallel topology provides superior mounting flexibility and ease of installation.
