RF Power Dividers, also known as RF splitters, are a type of passive components used in radio frequency circuits to distribute the signal output from a single port to multiple ports. One of the most popular RF splitters is the PWD-5511-02-TNC-79. This article provides an overview of the application field and working principle of the PWD-5511-02-TNC-79.
Application Field of the PWD-5511-02-TNC-79
The PWD-5511-02-TNC-79 is a 4-way RF power divider composed of two 2-way hybrid, which covers a wide frequency range of 800MHz-2.5GHz. Its VSWR in its full operating frequency range is 2.0:1 maximum, and it offers a minimum isolation of 20dB between outputs. Thanks to its high performance, flexible configuration and small size, it is an ideal choice for a variety of applications, including:
- Telecommunications
- Military communication
- Broadcasting and wireless base stations
- Coaxial signal distribution and more.
Working Principle of the PWD-5511-02-TNC-79
The working principle of a RF power divider is based on the principle of power divider. When the input signal is applied to the input port, the signal is divided into the 2 outputs, with the power of the two signals being equal since the outputs are in phase. The RF signal is then split to an additional 2 outputs, which are in a 90º phase shift with respect to the other two outputs. This ensures that the total power is not lost and all 4 ports receive an equal amount of power distributed from the input. The PWD-5511-02-TNC-79 works on this same principle, splitting the input signal into 4 equal parts.
In addition to the power divider principle, the PWD-5511-02-TNC-79 also utilizes a circulator. The purpose of the circulator is to direct the input signal in one direction while allowing the output signals to be shifted in the opposite direction. This prevents the signals from interfering with one another and ensures minimal signal loss. The circulator in the PWD-5511-02-TNC-79 is constructed with ferrite materials and is enclosed in the unit’s dielectric constant package.
Compared with other RF power dividers/splitters, the PWD-5511-02-TNC-79 offers a number of advantages, including excellent port-to-port isolation, high power handling capabilities, wide operating frequency range and small size, making it a popular choice for a variety of applications.
