DC-DC converters provide power from one DC voltage to either the same or, more commonly, a different DC voltage. The R2D-1509-R DC-DC converter is an industry- standard module suitable for input voltage ranges from 2.5V to 9V and an output voltage of up to 150V. This device is capable of working with a switching frequency from 10 kHz to 300 kHz and can transduce up to 150W of power from the input to the output.

The R2D-1509-R converter is a step-up DC-DC converter module also known as a boost converter. The structure of a basic boost converter consists of four components: an inductor, a capacitor, a diode, and a switch. The operation of boost converters begins with the operation of the switch that is connected to the direct current (DC) input voltage. The switch then connects the inductor with the input voltage that causes a current flow across the inductor. This causes the current to build up and increases the voltage of the inductor. When the switch opens, the now-charged inductor delivers the increased voltage through the diode to the capacitor. This creates the output voltage. The capacitor then keeps the output voltage at a constant voltage until the next input cycle occurs. The output voltage is then controlled by the input voltage and the duty cycle of the switch.

The R2D-1509-R DC-DC converter integrates a higher-voltage MOSFET which results in high-efficiency performance. This module also offers an internal compensation for the regulation loop and continuously limits the output short-circuit current, providing a safe operation and a longer service life.
