DC–DC converters are key components in any electronic device. They allow us to convert electricity from one voltage level to another. The R2S-1205/P DC–DC converters are one of the most widespread and reliable solutions on the market.
Application field
These converters are designed for providing power supply to many fields, such as telecommunications, computers and peripherals, medical equipment, body appliances, security systems, instrumentation, military and aerospace.
R2S-1205/P is immensely reliable and efficient due its features, such as Dual and Multi-Output, wide input voltage range, operation at -40°C to +85°C, low ripple noise through advanced circuitry, and improved efficiency. It is also featured with Remote On/Off function, output selective, voltage trimming, and short circuit protection. These features make the R2S-1205/P an attractive cost-effective solution.
Working principle
The main concept of the R2S-1205/P is based on buck and boost technology. The buck technology is a method for stepping down the voltage while the boost method is for raising it. In the buck technology, the converter changes the input DC voltage to the required output voltage by switching the duty cycle between 0 and 100%, while in the boost method does it by switching the duty cycle between 0 and less than 100%.
The converter works in such a way that when the input voltage is greater than the output voltage, a buck converter reduces the input voltage. This is done by the control circuit that calculates the correct duty cycle needed to convert the input voltage to the output voltage by utilizing Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). On the other hand, if the input voltage is lower than the output voltage, a boost converter will convert the input voltage to the desired output voltage. Therefore, the control circuit has to utilize pulse shunting in order to convert the input DC voltage to the required output voltage.
The advantages of using the R2S-1205/P include its small size, low cost, and high efficiency. Its robust construction and internal protection circuits make it ideal for various application in military and aerospace. In addition, its low noise, excellent load and line regulation, and high power density make it a preferred choice for use in industrial and medical equipment.
