DC-DC converters are devices which convert DC input voltage to a different, required DC output voltage. They are used in many applications such as in telecommunications, computers, automotive systems, air conditioning and medical equipment. The R2S12-1505/P is one such device in the DC-DC power converter family, and it is designed for converting the DC power from a lower input voltage to a higher output voltage. It is an isolated switching regulator with an integrated power switch and control circuitry.

The R2S12-1505/P is capable of providing output voltage levels of up to 24V, with an input voltage range of 9-48V. The power switch is turned ON and OFF by the output voltage feedback control loop, making sure that the output voltage stays at a constant level. Input power is switched by the MOSFET and applied to the primary winding of the power transformer. The energy stored in the transformer is released in the secondary winding and applied to the output capacitor for smoothing.

The output voltage is sensed by the feedback control loop, and the voltage change is determined by the reference voltage. This reference voltage is then used as control input for the pulse width modulator circuit which determines the turn ON/OFF times of the power switch. These switching ON/OFF times are inversely proportional to the output voltage. In this way, the output voltage is regulated as per the desired level, and the input power is efficiently used.

The R2S12-1505/P is a highly efficient and cost-effective device with a wide operating temperature range, and suitable for many different applications where it is required to convert DC input voltage to higher output voltage. It is capable of providing an adjustable output voltage with short-circuit protection and over-temperature protection.
