RDK-142 Application Field and Working PrincipleRDK-142 is a high performance One-Tank SMPS evaluation board designed to evaluate Power Integrations\' InnoSwitch-CE family of off-line flyback converters. The board features a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 55V, a wide output voltage range of 2.7V to 37V (switch off) and an output power rating of 5W. The board is designed to enable rapid prototyping and testing of the InnoSwitch-CE family of products, thus providing designers with valuable insight into the operation and performance of their design.The RDK-142 evaluation board combines the components of a typical SMPS design into a single board design. It includes a primary-side controller, main rectifier, primary TIP3055 transistor, secondary TIP42CFP, transformer, feedback divider, and power components. Additionally, the board also includes a power switch, EMI filter, and feedback voltage divider. All components are mounted on the board and are driven by a single PCB design using Power Integrations’ innovative linkSwitch-TN integrated off-line switcher. These components enable the evaluation board to deliver a highly reliable, high efficiency power supply.The RDK-142 board provides an easy to use platform for designers who are trying to evaluate a design for the first time. The board has pre-programmed default settings, allowing the user to quickly apply the defaults and evaluate the design without needing to manually configure components. Additionally, the board comes with a graphical user interface (GUI) which enables the user to make real-time measurements of voltage, current, output power, and other parameters. Furthermore, the GUI also allows the user to quickly modify the settings of the board, thus speeding up testing and validation of the design.In order to further increase design flexibility, the RDK-142 evaluation board also features an adjustable stand-by mode, as well as adjustable soft-start and over-voltage protection. The adjustable stand-by mode allows designers to reduce power consumption when the SMPS is not in use. This feature can also be used to reduce audible noise that may be generated by the switch, thus helping to improve EMI performance. The adjustable soft-start feature aids in inrush current limiting, and the adjustable over-voltage protection feature helps to prevent damage caused by voltage spikes and surges.In addition to the features previously discussed, the RDK-142 evaluation board is also robust enough to survive harsh environmental conditions. The board is designed to meet the requirements of EN 61010-1. This standard includes special requirements for Safety Agency approved applications, such as those used in home appliances and lighting. The board is also tested under extreme temperatures and humidity conditions to ensure reliable performance in a wide range of environmental settings.To summarize, the RDK-142 evaluation board is designed to enable designers to rapidly evaluate the performance of the InnoSwitch-CE family of products.
