RDK-201 application field and working principleThe RDK-201 is a universal AC/DC evaluation module and reference design board from TDK-Lambda. It is suitable for cutting-edge off-line applications ranging from consumer electronics and industrial equipment for a wide range of operating conditions.
The module is based on a full-bridge boost topology and can be used as either a buck-boost or a flyback converter. The board uses a highly-efficient, high-frequency synchronous rectification stage, which reduces on-board losses and allows for a wide input voltage range up to 265VAC. The very low transition frequency of 400kHz makes it ideal for applications with higher power and current requirements, while additional features such as internal slope compensation, a synchronous front-end, and a wide output range of 2.0 to 30.0V DC make the RDK-201 a versatile and efficient solution for off-line designs.
At the heart of the RDK-201 lies an onboard 32-bit microcontroller which enables digital control of all converter signals and parameters. The board is pre-programmed with several operating modes and functions that allow for accurate wide-range evaluation and optimization of converter responsiveness. Advanced protection features such as brown-out, over-temperature, and over-voltage detection guard against potential risks during operation. The board also features a USB communication port which allows users to interface with the microcontroller and easily control the converter using software on a PC.
The onboard driver provides excellent active clamping performance which allows the RDK-201 to take full advantage of its high efficiency and reduce losses associated with large output capacitors. Other features such as soft start, adjustable frequency, and a wide input power range make the RDK-201 an ideal solution for a range of off-line applications such as power supplies, motor controls, and lighting systems.
Overall, the RDK-201 is a highly integrated and flexible evaluation module that is designed to simplify the development process of AC/DC off-line applications. Its onboard features, wide input power range, and full-protection make it an ideal platform for comprehensive testing and evaluation of a variety of applications.
