The RDK-290 is a wide range of digital evaluation boards designed for applications that require power stimulation and multi-channel LED illumination. It is ideal for use in automotive, bicycle, portable and industrial applications. The boards can be used for conventional power-stimulation applications, as well as for breadboarding and simulation of up to 8 channels of LED luminaires. This highly-flexible platform was developed by Silicon Labs, providing a convenient and feature-rich platform that enables engineers to quickly evaluate and test-drive the features of Silicon Labs\' LED driver solutions.

The RDK-290 contains high-performance LED drivers that can be used to directly control LED lighting, an integrated processor to control LED lighting functionalities, and an extensive feature set to enable creative LED lighting designs. Using a USB connection, the RDK-290 can be programmed using the Silicon Labs provided software. The board also has the ability to program and debug embedded applications using the Silicon Labs IDE.

The RDK-290 Evaluation Board has a wide range of features, including: high-speed processor; 7 channel PWM outputs; power measurement & analysis; onboard timers and real time clocks (RTC); onboard temperature sensor; serial peripheral interface (SPI) control capability; intelligent powersaving; graphical user interface (GUI) with hardware buttons; integrated signal conditioners; compatibility with Silicon Labs\' MCU; versatile programming interface; and industry leading quality and reliability.

The onboard processor allows developers to create a variety of different applications. The processor can be used to control the LED luminaries in order to create different lighting effects and scenes. The RDK-290 also enables the easy implementation of power measurements, allowing for detailed analysis of power consumption in various applications and environments. The onboard timers and RTC enable users to control when and how LEDs are to be illuminated.

The embedded software on the RDK-290 provides comprehensive debugging and performance tuning. Also provided is the ability to write custom code for the RDK-290 board and the Silicon Labs processor. This code can be uploaded and executed from within the debugger, enabling developers to quickly and easily test their code. The RDK-290 even ships with an example application to help developers get up to speed quickly.
