The RE46C117S8TF is an ambient light sensor that uses four separate photo detectors to detect incident light from all directions and return analog output directly without elaborate signal conditioning. This ambient light sensor is also known as “Swipe Sensor” because it produces a true representation of the light even in low light conditions.Application Fields
RE46C117S8TF sensor is widely used for automatic interior lighting in automobiles, home and other indoor environment lighting control, LCD backlighting and intensity control, and projectors. RE46C117S8TF ambient light sensor works based on photodiodes. It absorbs the ambient light to generate an electrical charge. This charge is then transferred to a transimpedance amplifier where it is converted into a current signal. The output of the transimpedance amplifier is then passed to a signal conditioning circuit to generate a linear output voltage proportional to the incident light. The signal conditioning circuit also includes a temperature compensation circuit to provide more accuracy in a wide range of temperatures.The RE46C117S8TF ambient light sensor is a four-detector device, consisting of four independent photo detectors mounted in the package. Each photo detector is connected to a corresponding transimpedance amplifier. The outputs of the transimpedance amplifiers are then connected in series so that their outputs are added together. The output of the signal conditioning circuit is then generated based on the combined output of the transimpedance amplifiers.The RE46C117S8TF ambient light sensor uses a Non-Contact Excitation (NCE) method to detect light.
