DC-DC converters, commonly known as voltage converters, are electronic circuits or electromechanical devices that modify an input voltage into a different output voltage. Generally, these converters are non-isolated devices which are used to convert a voltage from low to high or high to low to satisfy a certain application requirement. The REC15-4815DZ/H3 is a DC-DC converter that offers many advantages that make it suitable for a wide range of applications.

The output voltage is maintained at a designed level through the Transformation Ratio (TR) of inductor and capacitor. Generally, the gain is determined by the ratio of primary winding turns in a transformer. In case of buck topology, the basic structure includes two capacitors, two diodes, and a transformer.
The whole circuit consists of an energy storage inductor; two power diodes, a switching transistor that provides energy to driving the transformer and a main transformer. The transformer includes a primary and secondary winding. When the switching transistor is in conduction state, current occurs through the primary winding of the transformer, which creates a magnetic flux in the core. This magnetic flux is transferred to the secondary windings through the core and this magnetic flux removes commutation and energy is transferred to the output side. This situation keeps stable until the switch is off.
On the other hand, the working principle of the REC15-4815DZ/H3 DC-DC converter is also based on the use of the switching transistor. The power transistor is driven by a voltage-controlled oscillator, which is modulated by two clock signals that feed the power transistor to control the pulse-width at its output. This pulse-width is regulated to regulate the power output at the secondary side.
The secondary winding consists of two back-to-back, full-bridge rectifiers which produces low-ripple voltage. The current flowing through secondary winding is regulated by the capacitive filter. This filter prevents the current ripple and high-frequency noise from entering the output side. The output voltage is then regulated by a voltage feedback loop.
