DC DC Converters

DC DC converters are used to supply power to electronic components or systems that require different voltages, by converting a DC input voltage to the desired DC output voltage.One of the most common types of DC DC converters is the REC5-2415SRWZ/H2/C/SMD-R. This converter is a switched-mode power supply (SMPS) that uses pulse-width modulation (PWM) to convert the DC input voltage to the required DC output voltage. It can convert a DC voltage in the range of +4.5V to +54V to a corresponding output voltage in the range of +1.0V to +58.0V.

Working Principle

The Basic Operation of the REC5-2415SRWZ/H2/C/SMD-R involves a power circuit and a low-side switching circuit. The power circuit simply consists of the input voltage, the output voltage, and a storage inductor. The low-side switching circuit includes a direct current (DC) switch, a Schmitt trigger inverter, and a low-pass filter.

When a DC voltage is applied to the input, the power circuit will be activated, with the current flowing from the input voltage through the inductor to the output voltage. As the current passes through the inductor, a magnetic field is generated, storing energy for use in the output circuit. The low-side switching circuit is responsible for controlling the on/off switching of the DC input voltage, thus allowing the pulsed current to pass through the inductor and regulate the output voltage.

In the REC5-2415SRWZ/H2/C/SMD-R, the DC switch is connected in series to the output line. When the Schmitt trigger inverter receives a logical high voltage, the DC switch will be activated to draw current from the output line. This current is then passed through the inductor, and the stored energy from the inductor is then released back to the output line. The low-pass filter smoothens the output voltage so that it has an expected sinusoidal waveform.
