RF Directional Coupler
An RF Directional Coupler, or RFDC, is a device used to measure or sample the power of an RF signal travelling along a transmission line. The RFP-4015 is a type of RFDC that operates at frequencies ranging from 3kHz to 2.5GHz and is designed for broadcast and military applications.
Application Field
The RFP-4015 is a passive device that can be used for a variety of purposes. It is particularly useful in RF test and measurement applications because it is able to measure and sample signals from 3kHz to 2.5GHz with exceptional accuracy. It can also be used in radio communication systems to provide feedback on equipment performance, create a reference signal for transmitter calibration, monitor signal levels and harmonics, and ensure that the power levels of generated signals remain within their desired range. Additionally, the RFP-4015 find uses in broadcast, cellular, and radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems.
Functional Principle
The RFP-4015 works by coupling a small amount of power from the main transmission line to a test port, allowing the signal level on the main line to be regulated or monitored. It does this by using two distinct types of couplers: the forward-directional coupler and the reverse-directional coupler.
The forward-directional coupler is designed to measure the power travelling along the main transmission line in the same direction as the signal itself. This type of coupler takes a fraction of the power from the main line and delivers it to the test port for sampling and measurement.
The reverse-directional coupler is intended to measure the power travelling along the transmission line in the opposite direction of the signal. This type of coupler does not deliver any of the signal power from the main line, rather it takes power from the test port and, via some internal circuity, reflects a portion of this power back to the main line.
Overall, the RFP-4015 is able to measure and sample signals from 3 kHz to 2.5GHz with excellent accuracy. It is a valuable tool for radio communication systems, broadcast and cellular systems, and RFID systems.
