DC-DC converters have been around for many years and continue to be of great use due to their ability to convert a DC input voltage to a DC output voltage that is much higher or lower than the input voltage. The RGZ-0905D is an example of such a converter. It is widely used for applications such as switching power supplies, UPS systems, DC motor drive systems, and much more.
The RGZ-0905D is a plus-minus DC-DC converter that provides up to 5A of output current, while operating on an input range of 5.5V to 16V. It has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and a maximum efficiency of up to 85%. Its other features include a wide Input voltage range, high performance, low ripple and noise, excellent line and load regulation, over-voltage, over-current, and short-circuit protection, as well as vertical and horizontal mounting capabilities.
The RGZ-0905D works on the principle of peak current mode control with external resistors and capacitors. The external resistor controls the frequency of the converter, while the external capacitor controls the hysteresis of the current loop. A typical application circuit is shown in Figure 1, which uses the RGZ-0905D to convert a 12V input to a 5V output. The external components used are an inductor, an output capacitor, an input capacitor, and resistors.
Figure 1 .RGZ-0905 application circuit
When the input voltage rises above its start-up voltage, the main power switch Q1 is turned on, allowing current to flow in the inductor. As the current rises, Q1 is turned off at a predetermined current threshold set by the external resistor. As the inductor current decays, the current in the rectifier diode D1 increases. This will cause the output voltage to reach a peak, at which point the converter will cycle again. This cycle will continue until the output voltage reaches the desired value due to the feedback of the external resistor.
The design of the RGZ-0905D allows it to output a stable, low noise, and low ripple voltage. Its wide operating temperature range makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. Also, its high efficiency and excellent line and load regulation make it a very reliable DC-DC converter. As such, the RGZ-0905D is a great solution for many DC-DC conversion projects.
