Working Principle

The primary side input voltage is rectified through a full-wave bridge rectifier and then transformed by a power factor correction (PFC) stage before being used to drive the PWM switch circuit.

The PWM switch circuit further controls the power transfer on the primary side by diverting the current to the primary side windings through the switch which is determined by the control circuit. The output stage then produces a byproduct of switching noise, which must be filtered out through high frequency capacitive and inductive components.
