RJS 1.5-R SHORT Application Field and Working Principle
RJS 1.5-R SHORT are speciality fuses, specifically intended for the protection of electronic equipment such as automotive and radio/audio systems. The 1.5-R SHORT are commonly available in two sizes — Rated at 15 Amps or 7 Amps. It is designed to have a quick operating speed and is readily re-settable. Working Principle
The 1.5-R SHORT fuse operates in two stages — electrical and thermal. The fuse is designed to quickly open in response to an overcurrent or voltage spike, in order to protect the electronic equipment. During the electrical stage, the fuse rapidly breaks the electrical circuit when the current reaches the set value. Afterwards, during the thermal stage, the fuse gradually dissipates heat until it cools and the circuit recommences. This thermal stageof the 1.5-R SHORT fuse allows for self-resetting, preventing the need for manual intervention.
The 1.5-R SHORT fuse is constructed from several components, including a fuse body, a cap, and a wire. Thecap is mounted to the fuse body with a crimped bar. The wire is coiled around the fuse body and secured in the cap. The 1.5-R SHORT fuse is made of a temperature resistant material, which allows it to tolerate high temperatures associated with overloading.
When there is abnormal electrical load, the current through the wire increases, causing it to heat up. Over time, the heat causes the fuse to over-expand, breaking the electrical connection. Once the electrical connection is broken, a secondary process is initiated where the fuse slowly releases its thermal energy and cools down. Once the fuse is cool enough, the circuit is restored and the excessively high electrical current is no longer present. This process repeats itself until the root cause of the abnormal load is addressed.
