RJS 160-R Short Application Field and Working PrincipleThe RJS 160-R Short fuse is an electrical specialty fuse used in various types of industrial applications. They are designed to be applied when current amplitudes exceed a particular set value, interrupting the circuit to prevent damage due to the overload. In general, the RJS 160-R Short fuse is suitable for use in industrial processes such as machinery and equipment, where short circuit currents may exceed the standard range. Its compact size and simple mounting facilitates installation.The working principle of the RJS 160-R Short fuse is based on the Joule effect, equating resistance to voltage and current. This is known as Ohm’s Law. When excessive current flow through the circuit, it causes the fuse wire to warm up quickly due to the high power density, weakening the fuse wire and melting the fuse element. When the fuse element melts, the circuit will be broken at the connection, protecting the rest of the circuit from overloads. The RJS 160-R Short fuse meets the requirements of IEC/EN/UL 60898 and other international standards. Its rated voltage is 660V (Alternating Current), and its rated current is 160A. Its short circuit current shall not exceed 4000A. The fuse is constructed with two parts; a fuse element including the electrodes and a thermal cut-off element for short-circuit protection. The fuse element is a bimetallic strip encapsulated in an insulating housing and connected to two electrical cables, an "Input" and an "Output". The thermal cut-off element is a resistive element connected in series with the fuse element. The thermal cut-off element will detect an overload and make the circuit open by heating up, thus protecting the entire circuit from overload.
