RK-1512S/P Application field and Working Principle
DC DC converters convert one form of electrical energy to another, usually from higher to lower voltages. In the context of AC conversion, they are often called AC-to-DC and DC-to-DC converters or adapters. The name DC DC converters refers to direct current (DC) power supplies that convert DC voltage from one level to another. The RK-1512S/P series is a range of highly efficient, high density, DC/DC converters designed with advanced Auxiliary Winding Constructions and Synchronous Rectification technology, compliant with Efficient Level VI. It provides efficiencies up to 93% and up to 8A of output current for up to 11½W of output. It is widely used in industrial applications such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Inverters, Industrial Sensors, Digital Storage Scopes, Communication Measurement Devices, Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Power Management Systems, and Medical and Test Equipment, where it is important to minimize space, reduce or eliminate unwanted noise, or conserve energy. The RK-1512S/P series DC/DC converters have many features. It has high conversion efficiency up to 93% with input range of 9V-30V, output range of 3.3V-14.5V, 4:1 wide input range, and a huge input surge current tolerance of up to 20 A. It also has a wide -40 to +85 C operating temperature range, short circuit protection and overload protection. The typical application circuits are listed on the datasheet for reference. The working principle of the RK-1512S/P series DC/DC converter is based on the flyback topology. It uses a high frequency transfo rmer and a single-phase bridge rectifier, which convert the input voltage into a continuous DC voltage, and then provide voltage regulation of the output voltage. The primary side circuit consists of the input inductor, input capacitor, a primary transformer winding, and two primary switching transistors. The input inductor steps up the input voltage and provides electrical isolation. The input capacitor stores energy from the input voltage and reduces the ripple voltage. The transformer winding receives the current from the switching transistor and creates a magnetic field. The magnetic field induced by the transformer winding is then used to generate the required output voltage.The secondary side consists of a high-frequency control circuit, an output capacitor, and two secondary winding packs. The output capacitor stores energy and reduces the ripple voltage. In addition, the high-frequency control circuit monitors the output voltage and maintains its stability. Finally, the secondary winding of the transformer produces the desired output voltage which is sent to the output capacitor and the load. The RK-1512S/P series DC/DC converters feature high efficiency, up to 93%, a wide temperature range of -40 C to +85 C, and a wide input voltage range of 9-30V. With its high efficiency and wide input range, it is suitable for many low-power applications in industrial fields.
