However, since that time various types of DC-DC converters have been developed to satisfy many other needs in power electronics. One such type of converter is known as the ROM-3.312S converter.
The ROM-3.312S converter is designed for applications which require galvanic isolation, such as solar power systems, power over Ethernet (PoE), medical equipment, and other sensitive areas. The main features of the converter are its very low input ripple and its high efficiency, up to 98%. This converter is also designed for higher power levels, up to 1500 W, and has a very wide input voltage range of 9 V to 72 V.
The working principle of the ROM-3.312S is based on a full bridge power converter with current mode control. The converter relies on an isolated symmetrical full bridge topology, which is composed of an input stage, an output stage, an auxiliary power stage, and an optically isolated control circuit. The input voltage is converted into current by a power diode bridge rectifier. This current is filtered by an EMI filter and then converted into the desired output voltage through a high frequency PWM transistor. The output voltage is regulated through a closed loop feedback control system, which monitors and adjusts the power transistor pulse width modulation.
