TVS - Varistors, MOVs are mainly used in the fields of circuit auto-protection and anti-population interference. Through the usage of TVS - Varistors, MOVs, transient overvoltage which can cause damage to the circuit or system components can be effectively prevented.
ROV05H270K is a kind of metal-oxide varistor (MOV) which is grown from ZnO. It is widely used in the fields of transient overvoltage absorption and EMC, such as electromagnetic waves, electrostatic discharge, surge pulse and lightening protection. ROV05H270K is designed with reverse standoff voltage of 270V (AC) and maximum clamping voltage of 425V (AC). It can absorb the pulse current up to 3000A (8/20 us).
When ROV05H270K is working, the input voltage will cause a certain potential difference on the two ends of the MOV. The current will also increase and exceed the leakage current of MOV, and the potential difference on the two ends of the MOV will cause the MOV to enter the conduction status. Under this conduction status, ROV05H270K will keep absorbing the transient current until the leakage current of ROV05H270K is greater than the absorbed current. At this point the voltage output is well protected.
For the working principle of ROV05H270K, it can be divided into three parts:
- Stand-by Mode ROV05H270K is non-conductive when the input voltage is lower than the uniform standoff and reverse standoff voltage, thus no current will flow through it, so it can absorb the transient pulse current.
- The Power Requirement for Conductance When the input voltage on ROV05H270K is higher than the uniform standoff and reverse standoff voltage, the current which is about several uA, will climb abruptly until the saturation value is reached and ROV05H270K enters the conduction status.
- Conductance Mode The voltage input on ROV05H270K must be no higher than the clamping voltage in this mode. If the input voltage is higher than the clamping voltage, ROV05H270K will enter the self-healing stage; otherwise, the current will flow through ROV05H270K in a short time and ROV05H270K will recover to its original state.
As a MOV, the ROV05H270K has a good overload and short circuit current handling capability and excellent self-healing feature. Due to the excellent performance of ROV05H270K, it has been widely used in areas such as motor control, power supply, computer peripheral systems, instrumentation, communication products, lighting products, automotive electronics, home appliances and military. Products can effectively absorb high currents of transient pulse current and reduce the impact on the system.
In addition, the ROV05H270K has a small size, a low leakage current, an accurate uniform standoff and reverse standoff voltage, an excellent square wave pulse response, a long life and a wide operating temperature range, which makes the ROV05H270K an excellent choice for transient pulse current and EMC environments.
