Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVSs), also known as Varistors or Metal-Oxide Varistors (MOVs), are electrical components designed to protect electronic Circuits from damage due to Electrostatic Discharge, Lightning, Motor-Starter or load switching Surge, and other Transient Voltage phenomena. The ROH05H470K-S-2 is a type of TVS designed to dole out Surge protection for charged device models.

The ROH05H470K-S-2 is a multi-layers varistor module with four-layered structure and three diodes. It has thermal protection elements that are designed to cut off power supply in case of a surge, so it’s perfect for motor starter applications. The ROH05H470K-S-2 TVS works by passively suppressing high Transient Voltages by safely clamping them to a voltage level within which the protected Circuit will not be damaged. In the event of an electrostatic discharge or a overvoltage spike, the module’s Varistor element will activate, conducting current and dissipating the surge. The Varistor module will then return to a passive state; preventing further damage.
