TVS - Varistors, MOVs - ROV07-301K-S Application Field and Working Principle

TVS or Transient Voltage Suppressors and Varistors, MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) are devices used to protect electrical systems from electro-magnetic interference (EMI). TVS devices act as a "short circuit" to dissipate the energy of a surge or transient, while varistors or MOVs offer protection by absorbing the energy of a surge or transient. MOVs have been used in electrical systems for decades as a low-cost, reliable way to protect from transients and surges. ROV07-301K-S is a combination of both TVS and MOV technologies that provides superior protection from transients and surges.ROV07-301K-S is a form of multiple protection device (MPD) that combines a multi-layered TVS and MOV technology. The multi-layered protection is more effective than a single-layer solution, as each layer is designed to react quickly to transients and surges while absorbing the energy. The device is constructed with a plurality of layers, each layer having an alternating junction of PN and NP type junctions, in a cascaded order to absorb the transients and suppress the surges. The layers are designed to act fast to clamp voltage to a certain level, suppressing the transients and surges, and also to dissipate the excess energy released by the transient and surge. The device works in two stages; the first stage is a transient clamping which occurs within 0.5ns and the second stage dissipates the released energy. ROV07-301K-S is designed for use in DC lines and data lines, as it is ideal for applications requiring low clamping voltage, such as computers, servers, communications and industrial control systems. The device\'s excellent high frequency capability also makes it suitable for radio frequency applications where the device can be used as a filter to protect against high energy transients and surges. The low clamping voltage is also desirable because it reduces the peak voltages of incoming transients and surges to a safe operating range, thereby preventing damage to components that might occur by higher voltages. In addition, the device is designed to withstand up to 500W peak power for up to 1ms and withstand multiple transients up to 8kV.
