Working Principle of ROV20H511K-2
The ROV20H511K-2 employs a balanced topology which prevents damaging currents from flowing between neighboring pins during overvoltage pulses. The device features a true differential and common mode protection and bidirectional operation which allow symmetrical voltage surge protection on both line directions. The ROV20H511K-2 also provides protection from electrostatic discharges (ESD) of up to +/- 15kV Human Body Model.
When the incoming overvoltage exceeds the standard threshold of an “on state”, the ROV20H511K-2 snaps to its lower resistance “off state” and limits the voltage spike to an absolute maximum, known as the Clamping Voltage (Vc). The voltage across the device is then passed on to a large low-impedance ground onto which the TVS is connected. The current is then contained to the short path created across the varistor and very little, if any, of the transient energy is passed on to the protected system or device.
The design of the ROV20H511K-2 allows it to rapidly respond to very fast overvoltage transients on the lines. Additionally, it is highly resistant to thermal/electrical fatigue and can withstand more than 1,000,000 surge cycles.
