Optical Sensors - Photointerrupters - Slot Type - Transistor Output: RPI-128 Application Field and Working Principle
The RPI-128 photointerrupters of the slot type are optical sensors designed for industrial applications and they have transistor outputs. These photointerrupters are particularly suitable for motor position detection, automated manufacturing equipment, end-of-line sensing, die-cutting machinery operations and proximity sensing.
The RPI-128\'s working principle is based on the use of an emitting diode and a phototransistor in the same package. The light from the emitter is transmitted through an optical system, which can be a prismatic lens, to a slit in the top of the package. When the slitted slot type photointerrupter is exposed to an object, the light is interrupted, causing a substantial reduction in current flow through the collector-emitter terminals of the phototransisor. Some of the key features of these photointerrupters are their fast response, high sensitivity and wide working range.
The RPI-128 can provide accurate sensing even at a long distance with its direct connection of the Optical Sensor output to the processor or controller. They are able to sense objects, on either side of the slot, simultaneously, as an added benefit. The slot type design also helps to reduce false triggering and ensure that larger sizes of objects are correctly identified, thus making them ideal for the object sensing of industrial machines. Additionally, due to the optical slot design, the RPI-128 has high insulation properties between the input and output sides of the photointerrupter, which eliminates the need for additional insulation in the circuit.
The RPI-128 offers a relatively simple circuit environment due to its transistor output, which requires only a single power supply voltage. This is made possible by its built-in precise voltage regulator which also helps to maintain a stable and consistent output signal. Additionally, these photointerrupters consume little power (typically 1mW or less). As such, they are able to operate in highly sensitive applications such as in consumer products, while remaining cost-effective.
In summary, the RPI-128 slot type photointerrupters can be used for a wide range of industrial applications, thanks to its precise voltage regulator, high insulation property, fast response and low power consumption. The transistor output of RPI-128 allows for a simple circuit environment and the ability to accurately sense objects at a long distance. With all these features and benefits combined, it is clear to see why the RPI-128 photointerrupters are so popular among industrial users.
