Optical sensors based on photointerrupters are commonly used for various applications. Most of these photointerruptors are of the “slot type”, i.e. they have two parts, the sensor itself and an LED optically coupled to it. The RPI-2501 Transistor Output Slot type photointerrupter is such an device. It consists of an infrared LED (Infrared Emitter Diode), a photodetector, and a high-speed, open-collector inverting transistor switch. The device works with digital logic systems and acts as an isolator between two logic families.

The RPI-2501 optical Sensor contains an infrared emitting diode (IRED) and a photodetector with a highly sensitive area. The photodetector is divided into two parts.
