Optical sensors are used in many industrial and commercial applications to detect the presence or absence of a physical object without direct contact between the sensor and the object. Photointerrupters are commonly used in such applications. Slot type photointerrupters, like the RPI-441C1, feature a photosensitive surface with a narrow slit or slot, and are used primarily in low- and mid-speed sensing applications. In particular, the RPI-441C1 Transistor Output photointerrupter was designed for a variety of applications requiring precise position detection.
The RPI-441C1 Transistor Output photointerrupter consists of an infrared emitting diode (IRED) and an integrated open-collector transistor. The photosensitive surface of the slot type photointerrupter detects the presence or absence of a physical object and switches the transistor output from Low to High, or vice versa. An LED located on the housing indicates the on/off status of the switch.
The RPI-441C1 Transistor Output photointerrupter is designed for applications requiring precise position detection, such as pulse generators, stepper motors, machine tools, encoders, and copy machines. For example, the RPI-441C1 can be used in pulse generators to detect the movement of a sliding plate, or in encoders to detect changes in the position of a rotating member. In addition, the photointerrupter can be used in copy machines to detect the presence or absence of paper at a printing station.
The RPI-441C1 Transistor Output photointerrupter has several key advantages which make it well-suited for such applications. It is sensitive to light in the visible and infrared spectrum, has a high speed response time of 0.5 ms, and can detect objects with a minimum thickness of 0.1 mm. In addition, the housing is made of heat and shocks resistant polycarbonate, and the photointerrupter is rated for a switching current of 50 mA with a voltage drop of 0.2V.
The RPI-441C1 Transistor Output photointerrupter is easy to install and use. The user can select either NPN or PNP type transistor output depending on the application and circuitry. The IRED can be triggered by pulsing or DC current. To adjust the sensitivity level, the user can install a mask to the photosensitive surface to control the width of the slit.
The RPI-441C1 Transistor Output photointerrupter is a reliable, versatile, and cost-effective solution for applications requiring precise position detection. It is designed to meet the needs of industrial and commercial applications, and is ideal for use in a wide variety of applications.
