DC DC Converters

A DC-DC converter is a device that takes in a DC signal and output a different, possibly adjustable, level of DC signal with high efficiency. The term “converter” can refer to both step-up (boost) and step-down (buck) types of DC-DC converters. Some DC-DC converters are also capable of isolating the output from the input, which helps prevent power loss along the way. DC-DC converters are popular in modern electronic designs and are used in a wide variety of applications, including industrial, medical, automotive, and consumer electronics.

RSS-3.33.3/P application field and working principle

The RSS-3.33.3/P series are a family of high-performance, low-power, synchronous buck DC-DC converters designed to provide a regulated output voltage from a wide range of input voltages. The series offers a wide output range (from 0.8V to 8.2V) with an output current capability of up to 9A. The converter has a fixed-frequency operation and is available in two package sizes (7/8” and 17/18”). The RSS-3.33.3/P series converters feature built-in over-voltage and under-voltage protection, overload protection, and thermal shutdown.

The working principle of the RSS-3.33.3/P series converter is based on a switching technique, where the power is switched between the input and output by synchronous rectification. The synchronous rectifier switch is controlled by a voltage feedback loop so that the output voltage is regulated at the desired set point. The output voltage is independently adjustable through an external resistor divider. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) circuit allows the converter to operate with maximum efficiency over a wide range of input voltages. The converter is able to operate over a wide input voltage range, from 4V to 80V, and is designed to meet EN55032 (Class B) EMI limits.

RSS-3.33.3/P series converters are applicable in a wide range of industries.
