DC-DC converters are devices that are used to convert Direct Current (DC) power from one level to another. The RTS-2412/H-R device is one such DC-DC converter which is specifically designed to convert 24 V DC into 12 V DC.

This method of transforming an input voltage into the required frequency of AC is based on the555 timer IC (integrated circuit) which is mainly used as a high frequency signal generator. It is connected to two MOSFET switches or transistors, a current limiter, and a switching diode. The 555 timer generates pulse width modulated signal which is used to drive the two MOSFET switches. During the on state, the two MOSFETs conduct current alternately, resulting in the input voltage being converted into AC. This AC is then transformed into the required level of output voltage using a switching diode.
The voltage regulation is accomplished by adjusting the timing of the pulse width, based on the feedback given by the current limiter. The current limiter senses the output voltage of the DC-DC converter and sends the signal to the 555 timer IC. This signal controls the pulse width of the 555 timer and thus regulates the output voltage.
In addition to the voltage regulation procedure, the RTS-2412/H-R also employs a protection mechanism to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the device. The system features a reverse polarity protection and short circuit protection mechanism that will automatically trip off if the input voltage or output current exceeds the rated level. Additionally, the device is designed to withstand high temperature operation, and is protected against over-voltage and over-current conditions.
