PMIC-Battery Management

S-8200BAI-I6T1U is a multi-function Battery Management IC dedicated for Lithium cells, which are commonly used in the portable computing and the rechargeable battery-powered products. Application Field

The monitor system covers a wide range of operations such as cell balancing and cell guarding, monitoring the temperature and the charging/discharging of Lithium cells. Working Principle

When the voltage of a cell exceeds the threshold, the comparator bypasses the discharge current and charges the battery up to the set point. At the same time, the comparator monitors the current in the battery connections to detect overcurrent or overvoltage conditions, and activates the protection function to prevent any damage.

Protection Functions

The protection functions of S-8200BAI-I6T1U are applied in order to protect the battery cells from danger. For instance, when one or several cells become overcharged, the IC will start discharging those cells immediately in order to bring the voltage back to the suitable level. In the same way, it also acts upon over-discharging, overcurrent or overvoltage conditions, shutting down the circuit until all cells have reached the desired voltage.
