The S-8205BAU-TCT1U is an all-in-one, highly integrated power management IC (PMIC) designed to maximize efficiency and extend battery life in an application space where power is limited and battery reinstallation is not feasible. It combines several power management functions and features, including Buck-Boost DC-DC converter, Li-Ion/Li-Polymer battery charger and systems monitor, into one small, low-cost package. It is suitable for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, from battery-powered wireless medical devices to wireless Internet of Things (IoT) connected devices.

The S-8205BAU-TCT1U PMIC supports up to 3.3A continuous current and up to 10A peak output current for powering the system. The Buck-Boost DC-DC converter can support input voltage from 1.8 V to 5.5 V for Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries and 1.5 V to 5.5 V for Lithium-Polymer (Li-Poly) batteries. The working topology of the converter is “Hybrid” mode which combines the best feature of both buck and boost converter and support automatic tracking the battery voltage level.

The S-8205BAU-TCT1U also features a multi-channel Li-Ion/Li-Polymer/Alkaline battery charger, allowing simultaneous charging of up to three separate batteries of different chemistry. The charger also supports “Soft Start” and “Under Voltage Lockout” (UVLO) functions for safe charging, and a “Termination detection” function to prevent overcharging. The system monitor contains an over-current detection circuit, temperature monitoring circuit, low-battery voltage detection circuit, and voltage detectors.
