IntroductionThe S-8211CAY-I6T1U is a battery management system (BMS) designed to extend the life of your battery. It is designed to protect the battery cells by balancing the power delivered between the cells in the array.The BMS monitors the battery voltage and temperature to detect when a cell is overcharging, and therefore, reduce that cell’s output. The system is also designed to maintain the battery in good health by periodically activating safety functions that prevent cells from overcharging or discharging excessively.Principle of OperationThe S-8211CAY-I6T1U works by monitoring the charge, current and temperature of each battery cell. When a cell’s voltage starts to increase above a certain programmed limit, the system balances the charge and current between the neighbouring cells by limiting the cell’s charging current and shunting the excess current away from the cell. This keeps all cells in the battery array balanced and equalized.The BMS also monitors the battery’s temperature and as the temperature rises, reduces the charging and discharging current accordingly. This prevents any localized heating of the cells and keeps the temperature of the entire battery array at an acceptable level.The system also ensures that the cells remain in good health by regularly running self-tests to ensure that the battery remains balanced and the systems is functioning correctly and safely.ApplicationThe S-8211CAY-I6T1U is designed to be used in all Li-Ion and Li-Poly batteries with 18 cells including stationary power storage systems, such as solar energy storage, telecom towers and portable electronic devices.
